The Vegan diet is an approach that emphasizes the consumption of fruits and vegetables, seeds and nuts, and other plant-based products. Vegans avoid dairy products such as milk and cheese, as well as all types of meat, fish and shellfish, and eggs. There are plenty of substitutes for dairy products and meat. Margarine is a substitute for butter, and some margarines are made from soy beans. There are also milk shakes and milk made from soy beans, and they come in a wide array of flavors.
Vegans enjoy a number of benefits such as a healthy immune system and heart. Given that dieters consume plenty of fruits and vegetables, antioxidants and macronutrients in them help the body fight fatigue and diseases. Many research studies have shown that fatty meat and red meat increase the risk for cardiovascular diseases and different cancers. Red meat, as well as game and organ meat are excluded from the vegan diet. Thus dieters are at a lower risk for high blood pressure, rheumatoid arthritis, and other conditions. A research study published in Food Technology shows that veganism eliminates or reduces the risk for type 2 diabetes and other chronic conditions. Unlike meat and dairies, legumes, veggies, and grains are very low in saturated fat, sodium, and bad cholesterol.
The main reason why more and more people go vegan is to show concern for the environment and animal rights. Many cows, sheep, and egg-laying chickens are slaughtered for meat. Meat production is a major cause for environmental pollution and takes a lot of resources, including water, fertilizers, soil, land, and others.
The list of famous vegans includes people like Travis Barker, Chelsea Clinton, Bill Clinton, Ellen DeGeneres, and many others. Famous musicians, actors, chefs, comedians, and activists such as Amanda Crew and Brian Adams are vegan.
